THE THREE COUNT FAMILIES.

4-count · Four published variations

Four familiar kick-and-punch sequences: rear kick → lead hook → rear cross → lead kick, lead kick → rear cross → lead hook → rear kick, and same-side closing kick variations. The form selector locks one complete variation at a time.

15-count · Defense starts the drill

Start with lead inside parry of a fed cross, rear wing shield against a hook, alternating elbows, rear knee, lead switch round kick and boxing. Finish with teep, slip, hook, cross and rear hop-into round kick. The two defensive counts are not skipped.

17-count · Six skip knees at count 17

Start with lead teep and kick, then cross and hook. Include #2 knees, elbows and additional kicks. Count 17 is a clinch with six skip knees, followed by the unnumbered swing-out and double rear-kick finish.

HOLDER AND STRIKER.

Prescribed order, independent coaching cues

The 15- and 17-count lists follow published WTBA-associated PDF references. The holder-target instructions provided inside Muay Timer are separately authored practical guidance. The PDFs do not prescribe every pad angle, grip or feed timing.

Defensive feeds are real stages

Counts involving a parry, shield or slip require the holder to present an appropriate controlled punch. The athlete performs the defense before moving to the next count. These feeds are not additional numbered counts.

Testing standards can vary

Historical descriptions sometimes differ on parry direction, switch-kick entry or lead/rear wording. For a formal WTBA or local gym assessment, train your instructor's required variation; southpaw mirroring is a practice adaptation, not necessarily an approved examination variation.

TEST PRACTICE QUESTIONS.

Does Muay Timer change the official counts?

No. Once a strict form is selected, its count order and named finish are locked. The clock only sets how long you rehearse it.

Do the pad holder feeds come directly from WTBA?

No. The count names are transcribed from published references; Muay Timer's instructional target presentations and safety cues are independently written interpretations. Confirm precise feeds with your instructor.

Are the six skip knees six additional numbered counts?

No. In the published 17-count sheet, number 17 is a clinch and six skip knees. The swing-out and double rear-kick finish are designated A and B.

Will the form work for southpaw?

Lead/rear can be mirrored for a southpaw practice stance. Because some source sheets use explicit left/right terminology, ask your Kru whether that adaptation is permissible for formal grading.
