MUAY THAI COMBINATIONS THAT FLOW

Good combinations are connected movements, not a random sequence of strikes. The next strike should make sense from where your feet, hips and guard finish the last one.

PRACTICAL DRILL EXAMPLES.

Jab → Cross → Lead hook

An accessible boxing chain. The jab establishes distance, the cross rotates the rear side through, and the lead hook rotates back into the open line.

Jab → Cross → Lead hook → Rear round kick

A classic punch-to-kick sequence. The lead hook helps load the rear hip; finish the kick with a controlled return to stance.

Cross → Lead hook → Rear straight knee

A compact alternating-side combination. Adjust range for the knee; your partner should present a belly pad rather than expecting full-force knees into hand pads.

HOW TO TRAIN IT.

Lead and rear are stance-relative

In orthodox, lead is the left side and rear is the right. In southpaw, they reverse. Muay Timer labels techniques by lead and rear, then shows the corresponding left/right side for your stance. Mixed mode alternates the stance between rounds.

Range changes are deliberate, not free

A jab is long-range, elbows are close-range and knees often need another target presentation. Any combination that closes distance should explicitly cue the approach. Kicks and teeps require replants before the next strike.

Long counts and shorter working combinations

Multi-count school forms can train memory and technical transitions, but a new combination need not be 15 or 17 actions long. For shorter rounds, Muay Timer limits sequence length so you can repeat and correct the same mechanics.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED.

What is an easy Muay Thai combination for beginners?

Start with jab → cross. Add a lead hook once you can finish balanced and return both hands to guard.

Does the generator choose left or right strikes?

You choose orthodox or southpaw. The tool converts lead/rear labels to the relevant physical side.

Does it randomly combine all eight limbs?

No. It selects from a curated list of approved patterns with range and side-rotation considerations.

Can I practice the four-count pattern?

Yes. Use WTBA Test Forms to practice four documented four-count variations or locked 15- and 17-count sequences, with detailed pad-holder cues. The app is not an official WTBA certification tool.
